He Is Coming Back – George K. Walker

“He is coming back!”
by George K. Walker
Macomb Correctional Facility, New Haven, MI

“The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance” 2 Peter3:9.

What is hope? I asked myself this question while reading and automatically I said hope is in my belief in the Life, Death, Burial and Resurrection of Jesus Christ. At times I want to be like Paul when he says “For I determined not to know anything among you, save Jesus Christ and him crucified” 1 Corinthians 2:2. If it is not talking about my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ’s crucifixion for the world’s sins, I don’t want to know about it.

While reading 2 Peter 3, Peter is bringing our minds to remember what will happen in the last days. In verses 3-4 (paraphrasing) Peter is letting us know that there will be scoffers walking after their own lust and saying, “where is the promise of His coming?” People will try to discourage you from believing that Jesus is coming back. But we must stand firm on our belief that all scripture is inspired and written by God and that God is not a man that He should lie. Knowing that the Lord is not slack concerning His promise, what manner of person ought ye to be? How should we be talking and walking knowing that our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ is coming back for us? Peter tells us in verse 13, “Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.” This is why our hope is in the life, death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, because He has given us eternal life with Him in heaven and a new earth wherein dwelleth righteousness.

“Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God; and they that hear shall live” John 5:25.

God’s Grace – George K. Walker

“God’s Grace”
by George K. Walker
Macomb Correctional Facility, New Haven, MI

“He hath not dealt with us after our sins; nor rewarded us according to our iniquities” Psalm 103:10.

Dear Family,

Every day that God gives me, I thank Him for His grace upon my life because I do not deserve it. God cannot help who He is. He is love, forgiveness, mercy, and grace. So Him showing me grace is what He does because that is who He is.

In the night chapter of the book of Ezra the seventh verse (paraphrasing), Ezra is praying for his people after learning of their sins. He says: “Since the days of our fathers have we been in a great trespass unto this day.” They have been sinning from the days of their fathers. Just like some of us, we too have been sinning since the beginning. But just like in the ninth chapter of Ezra, God’s grace is still given to us. in verse thirteen it says: “And after all that is come upon us for our evil deeds, and for our great trespass, seeing that thou our God hast punished us less than our iniquities deserve, and hast given us such deliverance as this.” There is no God that can give you this grace and mercy except through the blood of Jesus Christ. no matter what you do you can still come to Him, confess your sins, and repent and He will forgive you and wash away your sins. His love and forgiveness are not for us to understand, but to accept without question – faith.

We have to know that even when we sin in the worst imaginable way, we can still turn to God and repent. In verse fifteen (in part) it says: “O LORD God of Israel, thou are righteous: for we remain yet escaped.” Family, God always makes a way of escape for us, even from ourselves. We are still here, He sees fit to keep up alive so that is reason enough to give Him praise. Aren’t you glad God never gave you what you deserve?

“And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me” 2 Corinthians 12:9.

I pray that these words, bless you!

Be Encouraged in the LORD,

George K. Walker

When Religious Beliefs Differ – Rick McGuire

“When Religious Beliefs Differ”
By Rick McGuire

Thank you for sharing that your religious beliefs are not the same as mine. If you are open to going into more depth about them with me, I’m more than willing to listen. Here’s why I say that. I believe that it would be unwise for ANY person to bypass information which may enhance their awareness and/or acknowledgment OF, and/or allegiance TO The Creator of all things. Wouldn’t you agree?

Before ANY of us formed an understanding about ANYthing, we were blank slates upon which to record data about the topic in front of us at the time (Ex.: how to learn our A,B,Cs and 1,2,3s; how to tie our shoes, comb our hair, and brush our teeth; how to pronounce, spell, and define different words; how to separate between myths, stories, and truths [such as Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, the Devil, and God]; how to decide what we believe about something [such as abortion, homosexuality, drinking alcohol]; etc.). As we took in the material presented to us–thought by thought, reasoning by reasoning–we built a “house” of knowledge on that subject, from the foundation to the roof. Unfortunately, though, some portion of that which we were taught may have been anywhere from being only a hair off, to being outright wrong. Whether that inaccuracy was given to us intentionally or not, since we absorbed it as being 100 percent truth, it can prove to be rather challenging to replace it with that which IS true.

All of that being said, when it comes to what we believe about something as intricate, as intimate, as deep, as complex, as vitally important as whether there IS an Almighty Creator/Creators, and if there IS, Who He/She/It/They are, etc., it is wisdom of the highest caliber for us to investigate this topic out as completely as possible. Again, wouldn’t you agree?

So, please share your beliefs about the Almighty with me. I look forward to it. A lot.

The Church Looks Like Frankenstein – Rick McGuire

“The Church Looks Like Frankenstein”
By Rick McGuire
Newberry Correctional Facility, Newberry, MI

One can never know when the end of this life shall come. Therefore it is wisdom to act as though we have only this p-r-e-c-i-s-e mili-second in which to exist. It’s for THAT reason that we Christians ought to lay aside any and ALLLLLLLLLLL things which separate us, which keep us divided like cardboard partitions between slices of pie in a pan. Come on, can that different way of seeing some set of Biblical information realllllllllly be worthy of keeping the Body of Christ from being whole?

We, the Church of the Living God, look like a virtual “Frankenstein,” what with all of the stitches, bolts, staples, and anatomical parts (from a variety of bodies) encompassing us. How dare we call ourselves “the Body of Christ” when we’re sooooooo disjointed, sooooooo opinionated, sooooooo unwilling to explore the DIFFERENCES between us to see if there is common ground and if the DIFFERENCE is really the T—R—U—T—H. (What if it actually IS?)

The Holy Spirit is in charge of leading us into ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL truth (Jn. 14:26; 16:13). A Mount-Everest-high number of arguments, imprisonments, tortures, killings, beatings, scoldings, slanderings, belittlings, beratings, and a plethora of other evils could have been saved if God the Holy Spirit (Acts 5:3-4) had been invited to lead those who were children of Almighty God (Jn. 1:12) into that which was ABSOLUTELY, ONE HUNDRED PERCENT, UNEQUIVOCALLY T—–R—–U—–E in “…the TRUTH…” (Jn. 14:6)–a.k.a. “the Bible”! Instead, man inserted HIS two cents through traditions, improper/incomplete understandings of Scripture, cultural outlooks, etc. And we held onto THAT “stuff” as if IT were God’s Word…all the while IGNORING that which actually WAS (Mat.15:19)!

To transform Frankenstein back into the Body of Christ as our Heavenly Father intended, let us set aside our unwillingness to evoke change, and set upon the mission to explore all that we personally subscribe to as God’s truth, making S—–U—–R—-E that it IS!!! I mean, let’s face it, IF our understanding of that which we are studying, meditating upon, memorizing, and using as our measuring stick for how we act in, react towards, and interact with the world at large is tainted, skewed, or otherwise flawed, we’d be abject FOOLS to continue calling it “truth.”

So, once again, let’s get off of our spiritual soap box, couch, or bed and make as absolutely certain as possible that we’re following GOD’S Word (HIS intent, HIS Spirit, HIS Heart). To do so, be sensitive to the often gentle leading of God the Holy Spirit as He directs your path towards it. Be ultra-willing to drop off any- and everything which He alerts you to that is NOT of Him, and just as eagerly grasp hold of that which IS.

Castrating God’s Word – Rick McGuire

“It’s A Shame Some Christians Have Castrated God’s Word, 2016”
By Rick McGuire
Newberry Correctional Facility, Newberry, MI

It’s a shame that fellow Believers castrate GOD’S W-O-R-D while simultaneously inseminating THEIR C-U-S-T-O-M-S in a Frankensteinian fashion. Unfortunately this is an all too prevalent mindset. In fact, such thinking permeates history. We can even see evidence of it in Jesus’ day.

“(3) Jesus replied, [r] ‘Then why [o] do you, by your TRADITIONS, [d] B-R-E-A-K the [i] direct COMMANDMENTS of God? [l] (6) So for the [a] sake of your own TRADITION [p] (the RULES handed down by your forefathers), [a] you I-G-N-O-R-E [c] the WORD of GOD [D-E-P-R-I-V-I-N-G it of FORCE and AUTHORITY and making it of NO effect]. [a] (7) You’re just PRETENDING to be God’s people [j]! Isaiah [p] was CERTAINLY writing about YOU people when he said, [j] (8) “‘These people honor me by what they SAY. But their HEARTS are F-A-R away from me. [r] (9) Their worship is WORTHLESS [l] to me. They teach NOTHING but [r] RULES made up by HUMANS [c] instead of [l] COMMANDS from GOD'”‘ [p]” (Matthew 15:3, 6-9).

Whenever we run into anyone who has this erroneous, spiritually crippling outlook, here’s what God Almighty instructs us to do:

“(2) Some [j] people will… [e] (5) APPEAR to be [j] SERVING God. But [r] they DENY and REJECT and are STRANGERS to [a] God’s P-O-W-E-R. [r] Stay AWAY from people like that! [p]” (2 Timothy 3:2, 5).
Treat them with love, patience, and humility, but UNLESS the Holy Spirit guides you to do otherwise, honor what the above verse says.

Complete Victory – Rick McGuire

“How To Live In Complete Victory”
By Rick McGuire
Newberry Correctional Facility, Newberry, MI

If you’re interested in learning how to live in C-O-M-P-L-E-T-E VICTORY over this, GUARANTEED, for the REST of your L-I-F-E, MEDITATIVELY read on. [Please allow me to share with you what “meditatively,” according to the Bible, means. Let’s start off with the key verse on this subject: Joshua 1:8 (Today’s New International Version), “Keep this Book of the Law [[the Bible]] A–L–W–A–Y–S on your LIPS; MEDITATE on IT D-A-Y AND N-I-G-H-T, so that you may be CAREFUL to DO E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G written in it. THEN you W-I-L-L be PROSPEROUS A-N-D SUCCESSFUL [[in E-V-E-R-Y problem, E-V-E-R-Y hurt, E-V-E-R-Y ungodly habit, E-V-E-R-Y hang-up, E-V-E-R-Y ungodly addiction, E-V-E-R-Y need, E-V-E-R-Y area of your LIFE]].” The Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance of the Bible explains that the Hebrew word for “meditate” used in this verse incorporates ALL of the following: “To murmur; to converse with oneself, and hence aloud; speak; talk; babbling; communication; mutter; roar; mourn; pray; prayer; reflection; devotion.” “Do NOT M-E-R-E-L-Y LISTEN TO the word [[of God]], and so DECEIVE yourselves [[by NOT A-P-P-L-Y-I-N-G it]]. DO what it says” (James 1:22, New International Version).

God Celebrates Your Life – Rick McGuire

“God Celebrates Your Life”
By Rick McGuire
Newberry Correctional Facility, Newberry, MI

You entered this life with M-U-C-H potential to accomplish G-R-E-A-T things. That’s not just a nice saying, it’s also a powerful truth! “(4)…[T]he LORD…said, (5) ‘Before I formed you in your mother’s body I chose you. Before you were born I set you apart to serve me…'” (Jer. 1:4-5; NIRV). “‘I know the plans I have for you,’ announces the LORD. ‘I want you to enjoy success. I do not plan to harm you. I will give you hope for the years to come'” (Jer. 29:11; NIRV).
When God makes promises–such as those listed in this writing–they are for E—V—E—R—Y—O—N—E. That includes Y-O-U because “…I am certain that God treats A—L—L people ALIKE” (Acts 10:34; CEV). Also, He A—L—W—A—Y—S did or will do PRECISELY what He says He DID or WILL do. That’s because “God C—A—N—N—O—T tell lies! And so his promises and vows are two things that can N—–E—–V—–E—–R be changed…” (Heb. 6:18; CEV). Therefore, no matter what H-A-S taken place or W-I-L-L take place throughout your life, reflect on this reality: “(8) The LORD says: ‘My thoughts and my ways are NOT like yours. (9) Just as the heavens are higher than the earth, my thoughts and my ways are higher than yours'” (Is. 55:8-9; CEV).
If you haven’t begun a personal relationship with the one true God, or you’d like a deeper one than you currently have, here is His instruction for achieving both of these: “‘When you look for me with A—–L—–L your HEART, you W-I-L-L FIND me'” (Jer. 29:13; NIRV). For further insight on this topic, read and seriously apply what’s stated in Rom. 10:9-10; 12:2; and Ja. 4:4-8.
As a result of all this, say the following Bible verses to God, and M-E-A-N it: “(15) N——-O——-T——-H——-I——-N——-G about me is hidden from you!…(16)…[Y]our own eyes…saw my body being formed. Even B-E-F-O-R-E I was born, you had written in your book E——-V——-E——-R——-Y——-T——-H——-I——N——G I would do. (17) Your thoughts are far beyond my understanding, much more than I could ever imagine. (18) I try to count your thoughts, but they outnumber the grains of sand on the beach….(23) Look deep into my heart, God, and find everything I am thinking. (24) Don’t let me follow evil ways, but lead me in the way that time has P-R-O-V-E-N TRUE” (Ps. 139:15-18, 23-24; CEV).
Now comes THE moment of decision: If ALL of the information on this page is TRUE, and you HAVEN’T accepted it as such yet, why not do so N-O-W? There’s NO C-E-R-T-A-I-N-T-Y as to when you’ll breathe your last breath. So, to receive EVERYTHING written about above, pray the following–and MEAN it: “Almighty God, I recognize that I’m guilty of having committed MANY sins [Ex. 20:1-17]. Therefore I ASK for A-N-D RECEIVE the Gift of Salvation [Eph. 2:8-9] You provided through Jesus Christ for ME. No matter whether I see or feel ANYTHING as a result of this prayer, since You CANNOT lie [Heb. 6:18], I K-N-O-W that I HAVE received FREEDOM from my sins and I AM Your child right N–O–W [2 Cor. 5:17]!”

Are You Tired? – George K. Walker

“Are you tired?”
by George K. Walker
Macomb Correctional Facility, New Haven, MI

“And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not” Galatians 6:9.

Here are some words that are synonymous with shall: must, will, definitely, without a doubt, going to happen, expectation, inevitable, to know, and stand on. The Holy Spirit pointed out the word shall to me in this scripture. So I looked it up and this is what the dictionary said: am or are going to or expecting to: will. Is or are compelled to: must. So I kept reading this scripture and I replaced shall with will and must, and it hit me. Be faithful in doing God’s will which is well doing and you must reap a harvest. We will reap a harvest if we faint not, this is a promise. God cannot and does not lie and whatever you read in His Word must/shall/will come to pass. You can stand on His Word! But first we have to know His Word and know that it is The Truth! Once we know that, when and if we grow weary in due season we shall reap a harvest. Paul tells us in 2 Thessalonians 3:13 “But ye, brethren, be not weary in well doing.” Paul is encouraging the church to be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. He will give us the strength to endure.

The Jesus tells us in Matthew 24:13 “But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.” I urge you my brethren to endure and finish the race that God has set before you. Be Encouraged!

See Yourself As God Does – Rick McGuire

“See Yourself As God Does”
By Rick McGuire
Newberry Correctional Facility, Newberry, MI

It is of vital importance that we see ourselves E-X-A-C-T-L-Y as GOD does. “For as many [of you] as were baptized into…[…a spiritual union and communion with…the Anointed One…] have…(clothed yourselves with) [the Anointed One and His anointing]” (Gal. 3:27, AMP). Therefore, “…Do not allow your weak THOUGHTS to lead you into sinful ACTIONS” (Rom. 13:14, New Life Bible). It is when we do NOT recognize as T-R-U-T-H that we literally have the very anointing of God on OUR lives just as Jesus had when He walked this Earth, that we yield to those “weak THOUGHTS” which lead us “into sinful ACTIONS.” When we do THAT “…Are you not acting like M-E-R-E MEN?” (1 Cor. 3:3, NIV).
We are NOT “M-E-R-E MEN” because we have the Anointed One and His anointing IN us, UPON our lives. Therefore, we are SUPER men. Since “super” means “above,” you and I are A-B-O-V-E ALL circumstances, A-B-O-V-E ALL situations, A-B-O-V-E ALL of life’s problems, A-B-O-V-E, A-B-O-V-E, A-B-O-V-E EVERY power and EVERY tool which the enemy unleashes. Period. But the reason that we sometimes find it a challenge to maintain a proper THOUGHT, SPEECH, and ACTION life is because “The Spirit and your desires are enemies of each other. They are ALWAYS fighting each other and keeping you from doing what you feel you should” (Gal. 5:17, CEV).
In spite of this, though, Jesus says, “…’If ANYONE wants to follow me, he M-U-S-T say NO to himself. He M-U-S-T pick up his cross E–V–E–R–Y D–A–Y and FOLLOW me'” (Lk. 9:23, NIRV). And we can do this because “…God’s Spirit is in you and is more powerful than the one that is in the world” (1 Jn. 4:4, CEV). As a result, “…[W]e DON’T spend ALL our time looking at what we CAN see. Instead, we look at what we CAN’T see. What CAN be seen only lasts a short time. But what CAN’T be seen will last F-O-R-E-V-E-R” (2 Cor. 4:18, NIRV). The phrase “lasts a short time” can also be read as “subject to change.” And since the “seen” is subject to change, DON’T fixate on IT, fixate on God’s Word…for IT contains the UNseen, and THAT is ETERNAL!

A Real Church – Hunter Tokar

“A Real Church”
by Hunter Tokar
Carson City Correctional Facility, Carson City, MI

I go to a great church. The fellowship of believers is a blessing and I am grateful to be a part of it. Our Church has grown dramatically in the last 18 months and is more unified than ever. As resident leaders we focus on preaching life applicable sermons that both edify the congregation and honor God. And our praise team does an amazing job beginning each service with wonderful contemporary Christian worship music that magnifies our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I am thankful to be part of the 4 man leadership team and to serve alongside awesome men of God.

Want to attend our church? There is a requirement: You need to be in prison. That’s right I attend a “Prison Church”. Prison Churches are often considered to be “second rate” or “not real churches”. Well here at this church we will not accept that. We expect that the volunteers who come in to preach and teach us are “qualified”. And by qualified I mean that they are called by God and anointed to preach and/or teach. When they are not we ask our chaplain to replace them. (A side note to the churches that send volunteers into correctional facilities; if you would not let the individual you’re sending speak from your pulpit, in your church, please don’t send them to speak from behind ours.)

We are NOT a second rate church. NO church located in a correctional facility is. We have to get out of that mentality. It took time to break free of that mentality here, but we’ve done it. We are a church, a REAL church. Just as important to God and just as REAL as any church outside these fences. We are blessed to have a wonderful chaplain who listens to our leadership and assists us as he can. He sees us as a “Real Church” and we are grateful for that.

Our church has a name: Mighty Disciples Of Christ (MDOC). Yep we took the initials from them and made something positive out of it. A church name helps change the perspective of your congregation. If your church doesn’t have one, get one. You should not be known as “Protestant Services”. Secondly, set up your structure as a real church. We have Pastors, ushers, greeters, teachers, group leaders, prayer team members, counselors, a worship leader, worship team, etc. All of the above are inmates. We are thankful for the qualified volunteers who come here, but they don’t live here. We honor them as guest speakers. They are not the Pastors of our church. They speak, they go home, and they see us next month. Our congregation lives here every day, we need to have support every day from each other. And most importantly, love each other. There is no room in our church for judgement or dissension. Not here. We address it in love quickly, privately, and assertively.

We love Jesus Christ and we are a Real Church. We are the Mighty Disciples Of Christ!

In Christ Love, Hunter
