Part 8 of 8

This is a sad commentary on many churches today. We cannot trust many. Mourn with me over this tragedy. Lament and be incited to act! If you or somebody you know is just listening to someone without doing your homework, you’re taking quite a gamble and you’re targeted in the enemies’ sights because you’re gullible just like I was. My dad is a preacher who knows God’s word well. It’s a shame I refused to listen to him for so long. What a fool I was.
Finally, sexual immorality. The Greek word is “Porneias” (Acts 15:29) and is where our word porn comes from. It’s so simple to check it out: if you want to have sex, get married to someone you love from the opposite sex and only have sex with that person. Everything else, including pictures, videos, clubs, etc… is sin. Don’t look at or in any way be involved with pornography/adultery. Don’t even look at another with lust.
Thing is we don’t have to find a piece of land and create our own unplugged commune (although it does sound nice). We can and should stay in our homes and interact with the world and put God first. We give Jesus and our families the time we should as outlined in Scripture. We may need to sell the house or Harley (or we may not) to work less and have less and spend more time with God and others but that’s exactly what Luke 14:33 says to do.
When we make a decision to follow Jesus, I believe he licks his lips hoping for us to be tasty and bring him pleasure. However, if we draw back or refuse to learn and apply the fundamentals and principles of righteousness cooperating with the Holy Spirit, we prove tasteless.
“Salt is good, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no use either for the soil or for the manure pile. It is thrown away. He who has ears to hear, let him hear.” Luke 14:34-35.
“Not everyone who says to me Lord Lord will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.” Mat. 7:21.
The Father’s will is for us to love ALL and for all to be saved. Doing this means we follow Jesus’ example sacrificing ourselves daily to advance the gospel of Jesus and make it clear to others as we grow in righteousness, humility and obedience to his word, repenting of and confessing our sins and faults to each other and him, growing up into spiritual maturity together in unity and harmony, pressing on always and being able to easily identify and expose the counterfeits for what they are as we pass the test!
Our target text – Acts 15:28-29 concisely covers all sins of the mind – idolatry and sacrifices to demons; and sins of the body – sexual sin.
Any dead fish can float downstream. It takes a live one to swim against the current. Be alive!
Repent for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. Do not be deceived.

Part 7 of 8

How many times has God used an oddball misfit who is willing to repent and become obedient, following the instruction of the Lord as he tells us to go cry out to the people and beg them to listen and repent?
Moses murdered, ran away and didn’t speak well. Elisha was called out of the fields while plowing. Jonah came from a rebellious attitude, running away and it’s consequence of living inside a whale then being vomited out. John the Baptist came as one crying out in the wilderness. I come to you humbly from prison, my consequence, divine intervention and blessing, having surrendered my all to God, moving forward in obedience, studying, learning, writing, and crying out against the false prophets and teachers and the demons they represent who want to drag you down with them.
“Indeed all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted, while evil people and imposters will go on from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived.” II Tim. 3:12-13
I know the way the world is makes it so hard and taboo to set aside an hour or 3 every day to study God’s word with our loved ones. These forces of darkness are directly responsible for all the distractions in the world today. They work so hard to make us have to work 10 – 12 hours a day 6 – 7 days a week. They regulate, by influence, consumer costs, wages and costs of living. They fill our minds with mesmerizing advertising, seducing us to want more of what we don’t even need and work more to get it. Idolatry and sacrifices to demons.
Everything about how our world works is an elaborate deception and distraction to keep us focused on anything but Jesus, God’s word and loving each other. They seduce us. Then, enable us to satisfy any possible selfish desire keeping our focus on instant gratification, sacrificing the true joy only God offers and our eternity with him to these demons for some idol.
“And that great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent, who is called the devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world.…” Rev. 12:9
Satan – master counterfeiter, con-man, traducer – through the idea of hooking a tow line to another vessel and dragging it through falsehood to destruction while exposing it to shame and blame, a restless evil with the ability to appear as a wonderful loving well-dressed man or woman, teacher, preacher, president, V.P., C.E.O. and on and on and all the demons doing the same.
Yes, God allows it. We must not look at this with reproach. This is war! We are called to action! We’re supposed to be soldiers! We are tested by God and tempted by demons. Each is an opportunity to pass a test, prove and strengthen our faith, and share the great news with somebody!
If we want the prize and the joy along the way we have only one option. Dig deep into the only way, which is Jesus Christ and his written word, begging the Holy Spirit for help. We fall in love with Jesus and put him first, putting on the helmet of salvation to protect our minds.
Then we take it to the world doing our part to end the traducement for as many as possible as the tow lines are cut and the shiny things and lights lose their allure because we’ve examined the counterfeit and found it to be a lie and a fraud.
This is liberty and freedom from the slavery to evil the whole world has come to embrace like heroin to a junkie killing themself slowly through every act of obedience to the demonic influence as they shoot themselves full of death and sorrow with every selfish word and deed being a sacrifice to a demon in idolatry and eating and drinking the sacrificial food and blood as they commune with demons in their temple.
Real Christians are to work as spiritual optometrists, figuring out what prescription the people God puts in our lives need. Then, in love prayerfully presenting them with their new spiritual glasses. God receiving all the credit and glory as this is the work of the Holy Spirit healing their blindness or correcting their bad vision as he’s done for us. (Reference I Cor. 2 and Mat. 28:16-20.)

Part 6 of 8

“For you yourselves know how you ought to imitate us, because we were not idle [ineffective, worthless, faith unaccompanied by works, dead (this requires discernment)] when we were with you, nor did we eat anyone’s bread without paying for it, but with toil and labor we worked night and day that we might not be a burden to any of you.” II Thess. 3:7-8. Does this sound like your prophet?
Could you imagine Paul, who wrote that standing in front of a congregation telling them to fill the offering plate, no matter how poor they are, so they can get all the things they desire in life or get a blessing? Telling them to pay for the forgiveness of their sins. “Buy these high money seats up front to listen to me speak.” Maybe he says, “God doest expect you to take time out of your busy schedule, inconveniencing yourselves by missing your favorite shows, setting down the cell phone or tablet or do less activities to study your bibles because times have changed. You’ll be just fine finding a church that looks good and helps you network, has good kids’ programs with the latest and greatest music, and makes you feel good,” after writing II Tim. 3:1-9 or I Cor. 14:29!?!
No, No, No, No, No! Our bibles warn us over and over to watch out for deceivers who are deceived themselves and could pass a lie detector test while swearing they’re telling you the gospel!
“Consider the people of Israel: are not those who eat the sacrifices {Israel’s priests, Lev. 6:17-18; 7:32-35] participants in the altar? What do I imply then? That food offered to idols is anything, or that an idol is anything? No, I imply that what pagans sacrifice they offer to demons and not to God. I do not want you to be participants with [Greek – Koinōnos] demons. You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons. You cannot partake of the table of the Lord and the table of demons.” I Cor. 10:18-21.
The food, cup and table represent communion – “Koinōnos”. The offerings and sacrifices represent our thoughts, words and actions. The idol represents whatever we hope to achieve, gain or keep. Selfish ways = sacrifices to demons = idolatry. The real Christian has abandoned this old way of life, elsewise they take God’s name in vain and claim their selfish ways are the work of the Holy Spirit within them, thus blaspheming the Holy Spirit and proving their professed faith and allegiance to God worthless.
“Koinōnos” is not crackers and juice, rather these represent and are taken symbolically of whom we have a common faith and discipline with. Jesus’ body and blood – love and self-sacrifice. Or, Satan, selfish ambition/desire, self-love, self-justification, self-will. This is described also in I Cor. 11 among other places.
“Woe to them. For they walked in the way of Cain and abandoned themselves for the sake of gain to Balaam’s error [Planē} and perished in Korah’s rebellion,” Jude 11. “But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation, into a snare, into many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction.” I Tim. 6:9.
Cain murdered his brother in jealousy. Balaam was greedy, unjust, immoral and used divination, Num. 22 – 24 and II Peter 2:15. Korah, some religious leaders and others who agreed with him were jealous of the leaders God appointed (Moses and Aaron) and coveting their positions claimed the whole congregation was holy and that Moses and Aaron were essentially intolerant, judgmental and lifting themselves above everybody else. Meanwhile, God was quite displeased with the congregation, Korah and his co-conspirators. Korah and those with him in the rebellion were all swallowed up by the ground. It’s quite a story in Num. 16.
It’s their selfish way of thinking that led them to sacrificing their morals, others, and ultimately themselves as well. Their individual acts of selfishness were their sacrifices to demons along the way. If we don’t repent and turn to God the way he commands with all our heart, soul, mind and strength, destruction will be our tragic end also.

Part 5 of 8

When people accept the counterfeit they not only defy these verses, they also take Jesus Christ’s name in vain – Christ-ian. Then they spread the lie and take others down with them. Just like I did.
These things are very hard for most to accept, consequently few will make it. This is the truth. Open your bible and show somebody else if you already know or see for yourself if you fall into the deceived category.
A guy takes his family to church every Sunday. He has a beautiful wife and 2 wonderful children. The kids are well behaved and do good in school. The husband and wife own a small car dealership. They want everybody to know they do fair business so they put up a sign indicating Christian ownership.
An opportunity arises to purchase several old rental cars at an auction for a great price and they buy. The cars have a few problems but their mechanic is able to patch them up and make them presentable.
A nice young couple comes in one day and chooses one of these cars to purchase. Their credit could be better, nevertheless, they can buy. This young couple was warned by their parents not to purchase old rental cars bought at auctions. They tell the man about this stipulation.
The owner/salesman assures them the car was owned by a nice old man who drove it primarily on the highway, and that he even considered keeping this one for his wife.
His wife is doing the finance work and sees an opportunity to jack up the interest rate more than usual for a fair deal and since the young couple is naive and desperate they trust, purchase and leave happy.
The owners make a large profit and decide to celebrate with the kids at an expensive dinner. They eat the food that was sacrificed to demons through their monetary idol and watch as their children eat also (children’s blood is now on their hands).
These people are living in and practicing deliberate sin. They go to church and even give from the idolatry money. They’re taught that God’s grace and mercy will cover all their sins if they’ll just confess. The demonic influence twisted the Scriptures to exclude repentance thus deceiving them into blaspheming confession which must be accompanied with repentance to be effective. They continue doing business this way with lies, deception, and taking advantage of (strangling) people. The family really doesn’t mean any harm to anyone. They do, however, put their personal needs and wealth and desires before others – selfishness, root of all sin – and by example teach their children the same.
They carry their bibles to church and keep up with what little Scripture the false prophet uses in service. They’re so busy with work, kids and what little fun they can fit in now and again that they don’t make time or have the desire to dig in and study their bibles through the week. They just trust the false teacher. They never hear the message of the daily sacrifice or self-denial or relentless calling to repentance all through Scripture.
The sign says “church” in front of the building they attend service at and the false prophet uses a bible while telling elaborate, uplifting, motivational stories mingled with a verse here or there, makes them feel good about themselves and laugh. For the time is here “when people will not endure sound [uncorrupt] teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions”. II Tim. 4:3. Maybe the false teacher is so deceived himself/herself they can’t even see the truth. Either way, they’ve become a vehicle in the traducement.
This family sits in church being entertained; they think the false prophet is leading them through the fields of wealth and prosperity on the way to heaven. They are deceived. Through their offerings and sacrifices, they are purchasing the cheap gold necklace at the highest cost, a counterfeit Christianity (idolatry), claiming it’s in Jesus name.

Part 4 of 8

The demonic influence uses illusory to conceal the destination of the broad road to destruction with corrosive corrupting and temporary sinful pleasure through instant gratification. Like when an unreasoning animal approaches a trap and can’t see it because its focus is on the bait; then, soon realizes this is its final destination. Maybe it’s the unreasoning cockroach who treads its favorite path of least resistance through the poisonous dust set out by its enemy and kills not only him but many others too.
When the demonic teaching is accepted by people who will not check the credibility of the speaker or the statements made, they spread the lie just like that roach and others are corrupted with them. Then they add their own spin/twist or moral relaxations and make it worse. Now, multiply that by thousands of years and this is where we are.
When people examine things for authenticity, they use a magnifying glass. When is the last time you heard a sermon on church discipline? (I Cor. 5 and many others) How about the book of Jude or II Tim. 3? II Thess. 3:6-15, II Thess. 2:1-12? Please take a moment and look at these. One of them talks about the mystery of iniquity (lawlessness) and all of them teach us to look closely at everything and everybody.
Are you or somebody you know being pacified and misdirected with a bombardment of motivational sermons teaching you how to be successful in worldly endeavors by applying biblical principles? How about grace, mercy and prosperity teaching without repentance, self-denial and self-sacrifice? The Scriptures tell us to place no value on the things of this world (I Jn. 2:15-17); but, rather to embrace Jesus, purity, godliness, dying daily to self, being humble and putting others first.
Ever read the whole bible? Ever dig in and study it closely? Ever take a concordance and dictionary (magnifying glass) and define the words? You could start with I Cor. 6:9-10 and Gal. 5:19-21, that really opened my eyes! Are you familiar with I Cor. 14:29, “let 2 or 3 prophets [speakers, preachers, teachers] speak and let the others weigh what was said.” This is not talking about casual conversation in the parking lot about the best line the prophet used in service. This means pay close attention, take good notes, go home and get together with other believers and read around every place used as a reference. Then find other places the bible talks about the same thing and read all around those. Make sure balance is being taught. Watch the prophets to make sure they’re living according to Scripture and not necessarily what they said unless that lines up too. You should do all this regularly while taking the gospel to others in both word and example as led by the Spirit. This is the average church member’s responsibility.
Somebody says, “Wait a minute! That sounds like a lot of time consuming work. I really didn’t sign up for all that. I’m a very busy person and my schedule is very tight already. Who has time for all that? I have plans, projects, a career, family, and many other time consuming things to do. I’m a good person. I go to church and I give money to them and others in need. There’s no way God won’t have mercy on me and my family.
Beloved, I have to tell you this is probably the most common counterfeit. This is the one everybody seems to want. “I’ll incorporate God into my schedule where it’s convenient. I’m not sacrificing my life and giving up these things I’ve worked so hard for. This is my life. I was told to believe in Jesus, ask him into my heart, get baptized and then have confidence as he blesses all my pursuits.” Counterfeit! Fraud! Cheap Gold Necklace Syndrome! Idolatry!
This stands in direct opposition to Scripture. “And he [Jesus] said to all, If anyone would come after me [get saved and be a Christian] let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it. For what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses or forfeits himself?” Luke 9:23-25
Count the cost of being a disciple, Luke 14:25-33. Verse 27, “Whoever does not bear his own cross and come after me cannot be my disciple.” Verse 33, “So, therefore any one of you who does not renounce all that he has cannot be my disciple.” Cannot be a Christian even if you fall for a lie that says you can and call yourself one like I did. The things we cling onto and refuse to renounce are our idols.

Part 3 of 8

The lies have to be replaced with the truth, through prayer and meditation and with an open mind, receptive, obedient, submissive attitude, earnestly searching the Scriptures and begging the Holy Spirit to lift the cloud of confusion.
There should be a sense of urgency for Christians to reach the people who truly desire salvation and are willing to do what it takes to get it; yet, they are living in the deceptive teachings of demons through these people with seared consciences and appearances of godliness. We have to love them into opening their eyes and accepting they’ve been duped (like I was) by a most cunning adversary who has taken the Scriptures and their minds and twisted them.
We have to begin engaging the enemy in spiritual warfare, attacking the influence of the deceptive teachings of demons through these liars who seem to be so knowledgeable yet their consciences are branded and cauterized from their selfish ambition to follow their own lusts. They don’t fear Almighty God or have any regard for anyone’s eternal home. They teach people they can live in lies, greed, lust and many other sins so they, themselves, can get ahead and live in the same disgusting lifestyles and not be looked at with reproach.
For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction: up, down; good, bad; truth, lie; etc. If we aren’t offering ourselves to God every day the way he commands, guess what? We offer ourselves to the only other option. It’s a multiple choice question, “Who will you serve?” A) God; B) Satan. It’s that simple.
“There is a way that seems right to man but its end is the way to death.” Prov. 16:25.
The cloud of confusion comes into our minds when we add our own relaxations into the mix of Scripture or buy into another’s that sounds good to our selfish, corrupt, mercy seeking, everybody wants to believe their going to heaven minds.
For a counterfeit to be accepted, a person would have to be blind; not knowing what the genuine article looks like; or it must look so close to the real thing that at a casual glance it appears to be real. A master-counterfeiter will produce an imitation or imposter that even upon some close examination appears to be real. To expose the deception of this master-counterfeiter (with thousands of years of experience), one would have to devote themself to extremely close in-depth examination and comparison between the doctrine they believe and the Holy Scriptures. Even then we need the Holy Spirit to reveal the meaning to us. “The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned,” I Cor. 2:14. We simply become willing and committed to surrender whole-heartedly. Then, the Spirit does the work through us as we cooperate.
When we realize we’re corrupt and need Jesus as our Savior, this is revelation and by way of the Holy Spirit. Individually speaking no one knows how long the Spirit will persist. The decisions we make as a result of this revelation/calling will determine whether we get any further understanding of “the things of the Spirit of God”, including but not limited to Scripture, or are turned over to a rejected mind. Rom. 1:28; II Tim. 3:8; II Thess. 2:11.
Satan and his demons have been waiting for individuals to choose to follow Christ and “take his name”. Their intention is to sabotage this endeavor by way of counterfeit religion, deception, distraction and any other means necessary. “Head ‘em off at the pass.” They intend to misdirect us before we ever get to the real thing. They’ve been infiltrating churches with enemy troops for thousands of years.
The deception is well rooted not only in our culture (that’s the easy part); but, also, and especially in our churches. This is their favorite place where the deception is concentrated and well-disguised as truth, success and love through tolerance of sin, rebellion and disobedience. It’s like a cheap gold necklace, looks nice as you leave the store but very soon turns your neck green and leaves a rash. Your money is gone and what you traded it for is worse than worthless.

Cheap Gold Necklace Syndrome Part 2 – Richard Wiseman

Part 2 of 8

These hidden reefs stick to what they understand by way of their own speculation, deceit and conjecturing; and, in so doing, judge the meaning of the Scriptures wrongly and have a dangerous wealth of delusional knowledge of the words and no true understanding. Then, using Jesus’ name, they teach this error to others who are ignorant of its meaning as well and thus the blind lead the blind down the broad road to destruction, ignoring all the flashing lights and warning signs (like this lesson), begging them to turn around before it’s too late.
These are the same ones spoken of in II Tim. 3:5, “…having the appearance of godliness but denying its power….” There are so many deceived into thinking churches full of people can’t have it wrong. They think to themselves, “I’m safe in church. These people seem to have the Bible memorized; how could they be wrong?” They’re confident of these assumptions. Close is a counterfeit, a fraud!
How can a person think they can just trust any preacher who has learned the words in the Bible and sounds good when, over and over and over, the Bible warns us about wolves in sheep’s clothing and imposters?
Even “…Enoch the 7th from Adam prophesied saying, ‘Behold the Lord comes with 10 thousands of his holy ones to execute judgment on all and to convict all the ungodly of all their deeds of ungodliness that they have committed in such an ungodly way and of all the harsh things that ungodly sinners have spoken against him [including deceptive teaching that relaxes morals].” Jude 14 – 15.
The same will teach that God’s grace, mercy and love will forgive them of all their favorite sins they can continue after “getting saved” and pursue worldly wealth and prosperity. This is a lie! The grace and mercy is for those who repent and turn from their practice of deliberate sins and selfishness.
Fraud warning! Jesus Christ is not an enabler to have all the promises of God, wealth and success while only paying attention to the parts of Scripture that don’t make us feel uncomfortable.
Do we think these deceivers are going to come on cable TV channel 666 with horns bulging from their heads, beady red eyes, with tags on the lapels of their raggedy suits, with blinking lights saying, “Beware of me”? Absolutely not! They dress nice, look good and speak well while standing on stages in churches, seducing people into idolatry using Jesus’ name.
Idol – V.E.D. – “Eidōlon…primarily a phantom or likeness… or an idea, fancy…the corresponding Hebrew word denotes vanity…” Idolotry – V.E.D. – “Eidōlolatria…sin of the mind against God…An idolater is a slave to the depraved ideas his idols represent, Gal, 4:8-9; and thereby, to diverse lusts, Tit. 3:3…”
I Cor. 10:19 says the image is nothing – i.e. motorcycle, house, money, power, family, statue (anything we put before God), rather, what it represents (where our loyalties lie). Our words, actions and thoughts are our sacrifices and these are offered to whatever entity they represent.
God is love, God is selfless, God is truth.
Satan is hate, Satan is selfish, Satan is a liar.
When people act selfish, hateful and dishonest, they sacrifice to Satan and by way of some demon, usually who was a participant in setting the temptation trap for us. This is one reason the real Christians relentlessly struggles to purge all selfishness (sin) from their lives and grow in godliness.
We are either for God 100% or we are against him. Partial faithfulness and partial obedience are an abomination to God. The verse does not read: Love the Lord your God with part of your heart, some of your soul, most of your strength and whatever part of your mind you feel like giving him when it’s convenient to you. Yet, this is how many interpret and apply Mk. 12:30 which actually reads, “And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind and with all your strength”. This is a commandment, even earmarked the greatest one.

“For it has seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us to lay on you no greater burden than these requirements, that you abstain from what has been sacrificed to idols, and from blood, and from what has been strangled and from sexual immorality. If you keep yourselves from these, you will do well. Farewell.” Acts 15:28-29.
“Demon – V.E.D. #2. A. “…Daimonion…Demons are the spiritual agents acting in all idolatry. The idol itself is nothing, but every idol has a demon associated with it who induces idolatry with its worship and sacrifices, I Cor. 10:20-21; Rev. 9:20; cp. Deut. 32:17; Isa. 13:21; 34:14; 65:3, 11. They disseminate errors among men and seek to seduce believers, I Tim. 4:1. As seducing spirits they deceive men into the supposition that through mediums (those who have “familiar spirits,” Lev. 20:6, 27 e.g.), they can converse with deceased human beings. Hence the destructive deception of spiritism, forbidden in Scripture, Lev. 19:31; Deut. 18:11; Isa. 8:19. Demons tremble before God, Jas. 2:19; they recognize Christ as Lord and as their future judge, Mt. 8:29; Lk. 4:41. Christ cast them out of human beings by his own power. His disciples did so in his name and by exercising faith, e.g. Mt. 17:20.
Acting under Satan (cp. Rev. 16:13-14) demons are permitted to afflict with bodily disease, Lk. 13:16. Being unclean, they tempt human beings with unclean thoughts, Mt. 10:1; Mk. 5:2; 7:25; Lk. 8:27-29; Rev. 16:13; 18:2 e.g. They differ in degrees of wickedness, Mt. 12:45…
B. Verb…..Daimonizomai… Signifies to be possessed of a demon, to act under the control of a demon. Those who were thus afflicted expressed the mind and consciousness of the demon or demons indwelling them e.g. Lk. 8:28.”
(Words in italics are quotes from Vines Expository Dictionary)

Not necessarily with glowing red or solid black eyes or speaking with crazy movie type growling voices and sharp pointy teeth, they can and do look like normal people, including preachers, Sunday school and Bible study teachers along with many other elaborate disguises.
“Now the spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith by devoting themselves to [listen to, believe, act on] deceitful [imposter, misleading] spirits and teachings of demons through the insincerity of liars whose consciences are seared [branded, cauterized].” I Tim. 4:1
“Therefore God sends them a strong delusion so that they may believe what is false, in order that all may be condemned who did not believe the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.” II Thess. 2:11-12. The context is the end times and specifically in regards to those deceived by antichrist, yet is applicable to those who the Spirit turns over to a rejected mind because they harden their hearts, enjoying the pleasures of sin refusing to repent, cp. Rom. 1:28-32.
“Delusion – V.E.D. “Planē… literally a wandering, whereby those who are led astray roam hither and thither, is always used in the New Testament of mental straying, wrong opinion, error in morals or religion.”
“We are from God, whoever knows God listens to us, whoever is not from God does not listen to us. By this we know the Spirit of truth and the spirit of error.” I Jn. 4:6
“Error – V.E.D. #1” Planē… a forsaking of the right path, see Jas. 5:20, whether in doctrine, II Pet. 3:17; I Jn. 4:6, or in morals, Rom. 1:27; II Pet. 2:18; Jude 11, though in scripture doctrine and morals are never divided by any sharp line. See also Mt. 27:64 where it is equivalent to fraud.
Errors in doctrine are not infrequently the effect of relaxed morality and vice versa.”
“But these people blaspheme all that they do not understand [Scripture, godliness, salvation, etc.] and they are destroyed by all that they, like unreasoning animals, understand instinctively [ref. Prov. 16:25]. Woe to them…These are hidden reefs [wolves in sheep’s clothing, false teachers causing people to believe error] at your love feasts [church services, functions] as they feast [sing, eat, worship, play] with you without fear, shepherds [preachers, deacons, evangelists, etc.] feeding themselves…for whom the gloom of utter darkness has been reserved forever.” Jude 10, 12, 13

“TRANSUBSTANTIATION, in Christian theology, dogma that in the Eucharist the bread and wine to be administered become, upon consecration, the actual body and blood of Jesus Christ, even though the external manifestations of the bread and wine–shape, color, flavor, and odor–remain….

“Transubstantiation is a doctrine not only of the Roman Catholic church but also of the Orthodox church. At the Synod of Jerusalem (1672), the doctrine was confirmed as E-S-S-E-N-T-I-A-L to the faith of the E-N-T-I-R-E Orthodox church” (F&WNE, Vol. 26, Transpor-Vermeer; “Transubstantiation”; emphasis added).

From the above information we see that Communion was performed by the “C-L-E-R-G-Y: an “O-R-D-A-I-N-E-D MINISTER,” “B-I-S-H-O-P”, “P-R-E-S-B-Y-T-E-R”, or “P-R-I-E-S-T.” That is probably because Jesus Christ–the Head of the Church (Eph. 5:23)–presided over the ORIGINAL Lord’s Supper (Eucharist, Communion; Lk. 22:17-20). Another possible reason for this may be because of the intimate nature of transubstantiation. This belief has permeated a large segment of the Body of Christ for centuries. To protect and honor its practice, only “the -C-L-E-R-G-Y” may have been entrusted with its administration. Before we focus upon the Biblical qualifications for giving Communion, though, let’s do a little more investigation.

“COMMUNION came out of the Seder and is still part of EVERY Sabbath (Friday evening) meal in an Orthodox Jewish H-O-M-E as well as the service in the synagogue. In taking communion we are renewing our covenant with God, each saying, ‘Everything I have is Yours'” (One New Man Bible; Glossary; “Communion,” p. 1694; emphasis added [ONMB]).

“SEDER is the name of the Passover meal…. Seder means order and is a reminder of the Passover meal eaten in Egypt at the deliverance of the chosen people from bondage as Egyptian slaves…. A mini-Seder is held in EVERY Orthodox Jewish H-O-M-E EVERY Friday evening to welcome the Sabbath” (ONMB; Glossary; “Seder,” pp. 1771-1772; emphasis added).

“THE LORD’S SUPPER, or COMMUNION, which is celebrated by the church today, is the New Testament equivalent of the Old Testament Passover. The cup and the bread that Jesus used to institute this supper were both a part of the last passover meal that Jesus kept before His crucifixion. The cup was His blood shed for us. The bread was His body broken for us (Lk. 22:19-20)” (Life for Today Study Bible and Commentary: Gospels Edition; footnote 1 at Jn. 2:13; pp. 47, 46; emphasis added [LFTSBAC:GE]).
“THE PASSOVER MEAL commemorated the Jews’ deliverance from slavery in Egypt (Ex. 13:3-10). It also had a much deeper spiritual application that, as Jesus explains here, would be fulfilled through His death. The Jewish nation as a whole had missed any future prophetic meaning of the passover.

“On the night of the ORIGINAL passover, the Lord passed through the land of Egypt and judged the land by slaying all the firstborn of men and beasts (Ex. 11:5). The Jews had to slay a spotless lamb (Ex. 12:5) and take its blood and apply it to the door posts of their H-O-M-E-S (Ex. 12:7). They were commanded to remain indoors or under the covering of this blood (Ex. 12:22) until the morning.

“When the Lord passed through the land at midnight (Ex. 12:29) to execute His judgment, He passed over the H-O-M-E-S that had applied the lamb’s blood to their doors and no one was hurt (Ex. 12:13). This is a perfect picture of the redemption that Jesus provided for us.

“Everyone deserves judgment because of their sins (Rom. 3:23; 6:23). However, Jesus provided Himself as a spotless, sacrificial lamb for us (Jn. 1:29, 36) so that if we will apply His blood to our lives by confessing Him as Lord (Rom. 10:9), God will pass over us at the judgment day.

“Jesus was sacrificed on the 14th day of the first month of the Jewish year–the exact day and time that the passover lambs were being slain (Jn. 18:28). Truly, ‘Christ our passover is sacrificed for us’ (1 Cor. 5:7)” (LFTSBAC:GE; footnote 3 at Lk. 22:16; p. 414; emphasis added).

Now we’re finally ready to zero in on what the B-I-B-L-I-C-A-L qualifications for GIVING (PERFORMING, OFFICIATING AT, PRESIDING OVER) Communion are. The stereotypical verses which are used for this service are found in 1 Corinthians 11:23-33. (They are taken from the three Gospel accounts of this monumentious event [Mat. 26:17-29; Mk. 14:12-25; Lk. 22:7-20].)

In the spirit of further investigation, let’s see to whom 1 Corinthians was written.
“We are sending this letter to you, the [r] Christians in Corinth [l]” (1 Corinthians 1:2).
This verse did NOT say that it was sent to the LEADERS, but to E-V-E-R-Y person who had accepted the Gift of Salvation–which I-N-C-L-U-D-E-S leaders. To further support this statement, throughout 11 of the 16 chapters in this letter, the words “BROTHERS and SISTERS” are mentioned 20 times; THEY are obviously the audience targeted by the writer (1 Cor. 1:10-11, 26; 2:1; 3:1; 4:6; 7:24, 29; 10:1; 11:33; 12:1; 14:6, 20, 26, 39; 15:1, 31, 50, 58; 16:15; NIRV). And since they ARE, it makes perfect sense that the G-R-O-U-P, not the L-E-A-D-E-R of the group, calls the shots as to what takes place at Communion. The following verse implies as much.

“My brothers and sisters, [r] when you gather for the Lord’s Supper–the communion service–wait for each other [l]” (1 Corinthians 11:33).

Does a leader of some sort H-A-V-E TO conduct Communion? It does not appear so–from Scripture. There IS wisdom, though, in having such a person be responsible for its oversight. So, whether you take Communion on your own or with others–in or out of a church building–as long as it is done with the PROPER Biblical attitude (“…do this in remembrance of Me,” Lk. 22:19; NKJV), you’re good to go.
