Are You Truly Free – Delbert Faulkner

“Are You Truly Free?”

It’s kind of odd that a prisoner, serving a mandatory life sentence would ask such a question; but I believe I have a right to know.

The freedom I’m speaking about is spiritual, not physical freedom.

You see, when I used to ride with the Detroit Renegades, I was into that kind of life big time. I wasn’t a 1 percenter; I was into it 101%; I lived it – I was all in.

I’ve now turned away from that kind of life. I’m now a Christian – full blown. I’ve given my all unto the Lord. And in return, He has set me free. Not with a physical body; that comes later. But He has set my spirit free – glory unto His mighty and eternal name!

I often hear incarcerated Christians say, “It’ll sure be nice once I get on the other side of this fence.” Is their focus on the physical or spiritual?

I’ve even heard them and others, who are not incarcerated, thank God for waking them up that day. For real!

I’d much rather be with the Lord than to wake up here in prison or outside this prison. But since He did wake me up and I’m still here, He desires that I do His work. And I’m gladly doing it.

But what about freedom?

Jesus said in John 8:1-31, 36, “If you abide in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; and you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free …. If therefore the Son shall make you free, you shall be free indeed.”

It seems to me that anything God promises to us must be received with faith.

So my question to you is: Do you believe you are free? If the answer is no, why not? But if the answer is yes, we need to walk in that freedom. And if we walk in it, we need to speak it.

God bless you all.
